Audio trimmer and cutter
I built this so you can cut a song, a voice note or a recording down to the part you want without installing anything. Choose a file, drag the handles or type the times, and save the result.
or drop it here
Handles: arrow keys move by 0.1 seconds, Shift with an arrow or Page Up and Page Down move by 1 second, Home and End jump to the limit.
Selection length:
Type a time like 1:23.5 or 83.5 seconds.
How it works, and what stays on your device
Your browser decodes the file and draws its waveform. The shaded part between the two handles is what you keep. Move a handle with the mouse or your finger, with the arrow keys (0.1 seconds a step, Shift for 1 second), or type an exact time.
Fade in and fade out are straight-line fades of the length you set, in seconds. They are in the preview and in the saved file. The ringtone buttons set the selection to 15 or 30 seconds from the start handle and keep it inside the file.
A WAV file is saved as WAV and an MP3 as MP3. Files in other formats, such as M4A, OGG or FLAC, are saved as MP3 by default, because MP3 and WAV are the two formats I can write in the browser. You can switch between the two before saving. MP3 is written at 192 kbps unless you pick another quality, the output is 44.1 kHz, and files with more than two channels are mixed down to stereo.
Nothing is uploaded. The page never sends your audio anywhere, there is no account, and closing the tab clears the file from memory. The file can be up to 200 MB.
MP3 encoding uses LAME through lamejs, both under the LGPL. Read the licence
Frequently asked questions
Can I trim an MP3 online without uploading it?
Yes. Decoding, cutting and encoding all happen in your browser, so the audio never leaves your device.
Does trimming an MP3 lose quality?
The page decodes the file and encodes the part you kept again, so an MP3 is encoded a second time and loses a little detail. Save as WAV if you want no further loss.
How do I make a ringtone?
Move the start handle to the part you like, then press a ringtone button. The end moves to give you exactly that length. Save it and check which format your phone accepts.
Does the new file keep the title, artist and cover art?
No. I cut the sound only, so the new file has no tags. Add them in your player or a tag editor afterwards.
