Video to MP3 converter
I built this so you can pull the audio out of a video without installing anything. Choose MP4 or MOV files, pick an MP3 quality and download the sound.
or drop them here
How it works, and what stays on your device
Your browser reads the audio track of the video, and a small encoder inside this page writes the MP3. Only the audio is used, the picture is ignored. If a file has no audio your browser can decode, I tell you which file and why.
Nothing is uploaded. The page never sends your audio anywhere, there is no account, and closing the tab clears the files from memory.
MP3 is written at 128 kbps by default and you can change that before converting. The output is 44.1 kHz, and files with more than two channels are mixed down to stereo.
You can add several files at once. Each file shows its own progress, a file that fails does not stop the others, and you can download the finished ones one by one or as a single zip. Each file can be up to 200 MB.
MP3 encoding uses LAME through lamejs, both under the LGPL. Read the licence
Frequently asked questions
Which video files work?
MP4 and MOV, as long as your browser can decode the audio inside. Other files, such as MKV or AVI, are refused with a message naming the file. I start at 128 kbps because that is plenty for speech. Raise it for music.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decoding and encoding happen in your browser, so the audio never leaves your device.
Can I convert many files at once?
Yes. Add as many files as your device can handle, convert them together and download one zip. If one file fails, the rest still finish.
